NFL Franchise Purchases Esports Organization

Seems like everyone’s jumping on the esports hype train. As reported by the Dallas Cowboys organization, owner Jerry Jones and investor John Goff have announced the acquisition of Complexity Gaming to mark their first foray into esports territory.

Founded in 2003, Complexity is one of America’s oldest, most storied and original esports organizations. Owned and operated by industry veterans Jason Lake and Jason Bass, the brand has been a mainstay of the esports space since its formation having won over 130 championships in 26 different competitive titles.

“The growth in professional gaming is incredibly significant,” said Jerry Jones. “We are proud to be stepping into this space with John Goff and an industry icon in Jason Lake. The synergies here are endless and I’m confident our resources will continue the growth of Complexity for years to come.”

Under the new umbrella, Complexity will be centralized at The Star, home of the Dallas Cowboys World Headquarters in Frisco, Texas. This move will be followed by immediate construction of a state-of-the-art operations center and global headquarters including offices, production studios, and industry leading training facilities. With The Star as home turf, Complexity players will have access to the premier training, athletic development, and sports medicine services of any esports athletes in the world.

One of the most successful teams in the NFL with five Superbowl wins, the Cowboys are also on top of Forbes’ 2017 list of the most valuable sports teams in the world beating the likes of the New York Yankees, Barcelona and Manchester United. If that does not prove doubters that the future in esports is bright, then nothing will.

This acquisition adds another storied esports franchise to the state of Dallas, following EnVyUs who will be competing in the upcoming Overwatch League under the Dallas Fuel banner. No word yet on the next participation of the Complexity team in any tourneys but we would not bet against seeing them in the second season of the Overwatch League. Stay tuned!
