NYXL Denies Uprising Perfection As They Win Stage Finals Second Time in A Row

The Boston Uprising had all the momentum and intention to stamp their mark as the new big boys in the Overwatch League but the boys of New York Excelsior had other ideas. While the Uprising came into the final stage playoff on a 15-match unbeaten streak following their win over the Gladiators earlier in the day, the NYXL have been relatively quiet in Stage 3 having being outshone by the Uprising form-wise. In their most recent meet, in Stage 3 against the Uprising, the NYXL were shocked 3-2 after leading 2-1.

But in the end, the true superpower in the league remains in NYXL’s hands as they handsomely handed the Uprising their first loss in sixteen games via a 3-0 win. With that win, they have now won two stage finals back-to-back, having featured in all three of the stage finals so far. Their only loss came at the hands of the London Spitfire in Stage 1.

The MVP was surely Saebyeolbe whose precise one-clips, timely blinks and clutch recalls ensured the NYXL walked home again with $100,000 in the bag.  NYXL’s flexibility in rotating their starting DPS players in SBB, Libero and Pine ensured that this team remain perfect in their approaches with each player carrying off their duties flawlessly. Protected by the ever reliable Meko and Mano on tanks and supported by the league’s best support duo in Ark and Jjonak, it was hard to not root for this team to roll over the Uprising, regardless of their current form.

With the stage 3 title matches out of the way, we head into a ten-day break before the final stage kicks off on the 17th of May 2018. Here’s the current league standings:

With ten games remaining, the chance for playoff spots are closing in for several teams, mostly those middle of the pack.

The highest placed Atlantic and Pacific division teams qualify for the seasonal playoff stage. The remaining top four regardless of division will qualify as well. As it stands, NYXL and Seoul are in the playoff stage by virtue of being the highest placed team in their respective divisions. The Uprising, Spitfire, Valiant and Fusion make up the remaining four.
