Overwatch League: Playoff Hunt Explained

Despite a Tough Schedule, Gladiators Have Something to Be Glad About

The Los Angeles Gladiators (21-15) missed a huge chance to close the gap  in Week 3 when they lost to the Valiant and now, they have three difficult games in hand – vs NYXL and Spitfire this week and the Dynasty next week. However, the Gladiators have defeated the Spitfire twice and know how to beat the Dynasty. They would also be crossing their fingers that the NYXL will go easy on them having secured top spot. A win over the NYXL on Friday would be immensely important. Led by the league’s best tank in Fissure, something tells us that the Gladiators will pull a surprise or two in these final two weeks of the regular season.

Fusion & Houston Clinging On to Hope

Three of the Fusion’s (21-15) final four games are all against playoff hunting teams so their performances in these matches will greatly affect the final standings. The Shock (16-20), however are not to be taken lightly as they have been lighting up the stage with impressive wins over the Dynasty and Outlaws. While the Shock are out of the seasonal playoffs, they are definitely in the stage playoff hunt so don’t expect these boys to back down easily. Seeing how the Fuel dismantled them, we don’t have high hopes for the Fusion and is our pick, along with the Outlaws to miss the cut for the season playoffs.

As for the Outlaws, it was a case of bad timing as they are set to face the resurgent Dallas Fuel and Los Angeles Valiant this week. The Fuel seem to have turned over a new leaf and looked really formidable in Stage 4 while the Valiant are a more cohesive unit than the Outlaws currently are. Coupled with other results going against them, the Houston Outlaws’ playoff hunt is set to effectively end by Sunday.
