End of A Dynasty As Seoul Misses Out on Overwatch League Playoffs

Early season favorites Seoul Dynasty saw their season come to a premature end as they missed out on the Overwatch League playoffs following a 1-3 loss to the Fissure-less Los Angeles Gladiators. Required to win the match and banking on the London Spitfire to defeat Philadelphia Fusion for any chance of prolonging their season, the Dynasty (22-17)  started the crucial match convincingly by winning 4-3 on King’s Row.

They then capitulated in the following three maps to the understrength Gladiators who fielded iRemiix on main tank as Fissure was deemed unfit to play. With that loss, the Dynasty cannot overtake Philly who occupy the last playoff spot at sixth place in the league standings.

The result also consigned Seoul to an embarrassing eighth-placed finish despite occupying the higher spots throughout Stages 1 and 2. Their terrible run of form started at Stage 3 and couple that with role swaps within the team along with inability to cope with the Brigette meta sees the team that started the inaugural Overwatch League season 14-6 during the first half finish 8-12  for a combined record of 22-18.

It was indeed a sad ending to the team made up of the decorated Lunatic-Hai core, and we feel a thorough roster change is needed if their team owners intend to challenge the likes of NYXL, Valiant and Uprising next season.

Meanwhile, the top six teams will meet again from July 11 to 21 for the seasonal playoff round. The 6 qualifying teams will be assigned seeds based on their Regular Season records. In the Quarterfinals, the Fusion will play the 3rd seed – most probably be the Boston Uprising, while the Gladiators have a date with the London Spitfire.

The lowest-seeded remaining team will then face New York Excel in the semis, while the Los Angeles Valiant await the highest-seeded team. Winners of these two matches will then face off in the Grand Finals, with $1,000,000 on the line.
