Former Dallas Fuel & London Spitfire DPS Joins NRG Overwatch Contenders Team

After a disappointing first season in the Overwatch League where he was traded out and saw his contract terminated prematurely, a top-tier DPS star and Genji specialist may have found his path to redemption and at that, a way back into the big leagues.

Former KongDoo Panthera, Cloud9 KongDoo, London Spitfire and Dallas Fuel DPS, Dong-jun “Rascal” Kim have joined NRG Esports’ Overwatch Contenders North American roster for Season 2. As confirmed by NRG’s Twitter account, Rascal will join the likes of Swon, Smex and Poise competing in the second-tier pro-Overwatch scene under the banner of the owners of Overwatch League team, San Francisco Shock.

Despite entering the Overwatch League as one of the world’s best Genji players, Rascal’s failure to dislodge Birdring and Profit as starting DPS for the London Spitfire saw him traded to the struggling Dallas Fuel. Following a series of internal disagreements and clash of personalities, mainly with Fuel’s former Head Coach Kyky, Rascal was released not long into Stage 3 of the Overwatch League and has been without a team since.

Signing up with NRG’s Overwatch Contenders team is the best way forward for him, as both seasons 2 and 3 of the Contenders will take place well before the second season of the Overwatch League starts. This allows him ample time to showcase his abilities and skill; hopefully justifying his return to top tier competition – perhaps via San Francisco Shock.

Commenting on the move, Rascal tweeted;

We wish him all the best as we can’t wait to see him tearing up the scene with clutch Dragon Blades in North American Contenders.
