Xbox To Get Keyboard & Mouse Support Thanks To Razer

Microsoft’s Xbox and PC crossplay plans are getting a power-up courtesy of current top dog gaming peripheral brand Razer. The peripheral brand will enable its Chroma RGB lighting support in Xbox games, which also means that its colourful keyboards and mice might be an Xbox staple soon enough.

According to sources close to the Verge, Razer is planning to have game developers tap into its API to bring Chroma lighting effects into games. This support will be in effect later this year when Microsoft’s fall Xbox update hits, assuming that there aren’t any stumbling blocks for said developers and Razer.

So what mice can be used? Microsoft stated that the update will allow a variety of them, including the ones with wireless dongles. Mice with Bluetooth wireless and custom mouse drivers, however, won’t be supported for now.

With this bold new system in play, would this place controller-savvy Xbox players in an unfair advantage against keyboard and mouse players? At the very least, Microsoft is allowing its developers to detect in-game whether a keyboard and mouse setup is present on an Xbox One or not; they’re basically handing them the tools to make things fair. In the end, it’s the responsibility of the game developers to add in that feature for balance’s sake.
