Overwatch Can Work On The Nintendo Switch, Says Blizzard

With Diablo III making headway onto Nintendo Switch this year, we do wonder if other top Blizzard titles will make the portable-slash-big-screen cut. According to a GameSpot interview with D3 senior producer Pete Stilwell, Overwatch is technically feasible on Nintendo’s current console.

“Anything is within the realm of possibility. Our team was given the task to work on this. If [Overwatch developer] Team 4 picks up that endeavour, that’s on them. As of right now Diablo is our only focus on Switch. …Yes, it is feasible.”

However, a game like StarCraft II may not be suitable:

“The N64 version of StarCraft was cool but you had to change the game quite a bit to make it work properly on console. StarCraft 2 is next level requirements from how much dexterity you need with a mouse and keyboard, so I think that would have been a very difficult port. It would have [to] change the core gameplay.”

Personally? A colourful team-based FPS seems like a good fit for the Nintendo Switch than an RTS. Sure, the touch-screen controls can make a difference, but it’s been proven time and again that playing an FPS on a controller is viable than playing a micromanaging real-time strategy game on the same thing. MOBAs like Heroes of the Storm? This idea’s more feasible since you’re controlling one hero instead of a bajillion units.
