We’re Not Getting A New Assassin’s Creed In 2019, Praise The Lord

Remember that Ubisoft Singapore interview I did with managing director Hugues Ricour? I asked him about whether the Assassin’s Creed games were going to be an annual thing lately, so he responded with a series of PR answers to deflect it.

Well, now he can officially say that 2019 is the year Assassin’s Creed takes a break. According to a GameSpot report,  Ubisoft head honcho Yves Guillemot said during Gamescom 2018 that there will be no full-fledged AC game next year since they already have Assassin’s Creed Odyssey coming out.

Plus, there’s going to be additional content & expansions for AC Odyssey, like maybe a rumoured Atlantis-themed expansion down the line.

“It’s just because the team was working separately,” said Guillemot, ” so we have two games now, one year after the other. But next year you’re not going to have a fully-fledged one.”

“What you’ll have is lots of content coming on [Odyssey]. The team really want to give, on a regular basis, some new possibilities for play, so when you get [Odyssey] this year, you’re going to get in for a couple of years, actually.”

Of course, when 2020 hits, Ubisoft may release a fresh new Assassin’s Creed game on new console hardware. But that’s a few years off; for now, we should be thankful that we will not be bogged down with too many AC sequels.
