TGS 2018: RIP PS Vita, 2011-2019
Hope you still have your PS Vita and did not sell it off just yet; PlayStation announced that it will halt Vita production next year. Sad times indeed.
According to a Famitsu interview, Sony Interactive Entertainment senior vice president Hiroyuki Oda said there are currently no plans for a successor and no plans for a new handheld device.
“In Japan, we will manufacture PlayStation Vita until 2019. From there, shipping will end.”
Goodbye, PS Vita. We’ll never forget your awesome gaming contributions to the industry, and also be a cautionary tale that with great power comes great upscale costs. Without the Vita, we wouldn’t get to see the following:
