MapleStory 2 Guide: How To Make Your MMO Life Pleasant

Class Breakdown

There are 8 classes in MapleStory 2, and they have their quirks, their strengths, and weaknesses. We’ll break them down for you.

Assassin

Maplestory_assassin

Pros

  • Flashy moves.
  • Very fun to play.
  • Good range allows them to level quickly.
  • Using 2 weapons allows great damage potential.
  • Uses very little HP potions in training.

Cons

  • Very squishy. Dies easily.
  • Requires a lot of running around mobs to avoid damage and kite enemies in a line for mobbing.
  • Damage not as high as other classes.

Use This Class If: You like to do hit-and-run up-close and personal. You will kite and run around a lot with this class.

Berserker

Pros

  • One of the best damage dealing classes, plus it’s fun to swing a giant sword around!
  • Great damage burst.
  • Skills transition smoothly.
  • Has skills to replenish HP by stealing it from enemies while wounding them.

Cons

  • Difficult to train in medium to large parties due to lack of accurate range mobbing skill.
  • Receive more damage as they perform close combat. Consumes a high amount of potions.
  • Unlike Knight class, they do not have skills that can shield themselves from damage taken.

Use This Class If: You like attacking and hitting things. A lot. Without any regard to your own well-being. Just be prepared to stock loads and loads of potions.

Knight

1200px-Knightchar

Pros

  • High defense.
  • Easy to mob enemies with “Throw Shield” skill that homes to an enemy and bounce to nearby enemies.

Cons

  • Half of Berserker’s sword attacking range, attacking speed and hits dished.
  • Knight skills from Level 10-22 deals 1 hit.
  • DPS (Damage Per Second) is lower and worsen with lots of misses.
  • For block and 100% critical to work, it highly depends on probability instead of relying on player’s skills.
  • Knight shines at Level 30 and above. So, it’s a little boring at earlier levels.
  • Shield Block only works with magical/physical projectile. Not able to reflect lethal attacks.

Use This Class If: you want an offensive class with the highest defense rating. If you rather face enemies head-on and tank for your future party members, go for chivalry.

Heavy Gunner

1200px-Heavy_Gunnerchar

Pros

  • Has the longest attacking range for basic SP Replenshing Skill.
  • Most SP Skills are based on AoE (Deals Area of Effect Damage).
  • Great mobility. Rocket Launcher allows you to quickly move to a specific location.
  • Has skills to perform high total damage in Boss Raids when utilizing skill rotations correctly.
  • The Female Heavy Gunner sexy voice-over is simply awesome.
  • Fastest mob clearing skills/stats
  • Not too flashy but fun to play and look at.

Cons

  • Grenade skill has very short attacking range, unsuitable for bossing/training activities.
  • Heavy Gunner are squishy (low HP) similarly to other non-Warrior class.
  • Damage range is lower compared to Ranger, Assassin, Thief, Berserker, Knight and Wizard.
  • Many SP Skills has cooldown timer and has long skill animation before damage affects enemies.
  • Lock On skill commonly used on Bosses does not have high impact.

Use This Class If: You don’t care too much about chaining skills and just want some long-ranged hard-hitting action with tons of AoE.

Archer

Pros

  • Fast ranged damage.
  • Skills produce very high hit combos.
  • High mobility which makes it easier to kite.
  • High damage output due to high critical hit chance and if you can land multi-hit combos.

Cons

  • Difficult solo play.
  • Low Defence, dies fast if you can’t kite properly.
  • Low Strength, requiring you to land combos to be effective.

Use This Class If: You like to team up with people and rely on the kindness of strangers. While the Archer has a lot of mobility and damage output, you need to keep with the offensive while letting teammates deal with high defense enemies.

Thief

1200px-Thiefchar

Pros

  • Stackable poison effect drains enemy HP fast.
  • Fast attacks and inflicts many hits.

Cons

  • Short attacking range. Hassle to grind/farm enemies and evade boss attacks.
  • Weak base damage. Relies heavily on poison to inflict heavy damage on enemies.

1200px-Wizardchar

Wizard

Pros

  • Have many active skills that allows you to deal high damage.
  • Great for mobbing and bossing skills.
  • Has skill that buff allies damage.
  • Has ability to teleport to avoid enemy attacks.

Cons

  • Low HP (Health)
  • Weak Defense
  • Skills need to chain in sequence to deal extra damage.

Priest

1200px-Priestchar

Pros

  • Able to heal self and allies. This saves a lot of HP Potions.
  • Has powerful close-combat mobbing skill at early levels. (Holy Light + Holy Explosion)
  • Has ability to teleport to nearby allies while boosting self movement speed. (Heaven’s Wings)
  • Has many skills that heals allies (Heal, Sanctuary, Angel Ray) and also replenish SP (Holy Symbol).

Cons

  • Weakest job in MapleStory2 in early levels and 1 vs 1.
  • Lacks mobility. Difficult to escape from boss lethal attack. Brace for impact!
  • Lacks of spammable offensive skills and defensive skills. Focus primarily on healing.
  • Requires a party to level up efficiently. Solo leveling is a pain.
