Atelier Series Still Going Strong With New Entry: Atelier Lulua

The Atelier series is known for its calm and collective atmosphere, its strong female cast, and its penchant for having people use magic alchemy to create many things ranging from bread to bombs. In other words, there’s fun to be had if you don’t mind some anime fluff in your story.

Publisher Koei Tecmo and developer Gust recently announced the next Atelier game called Atelier Lulua: The Alchemist of Arland. Here’s what we know about it:

  • You play the title character Lulua, the daughter of Atelier Rorona‘s Rorona. She has a best friend named Eva who is quiet but armed to the teeth with a bazooka/gatling gun. Yeah this series can get a bit weird.
  • This entry uses the patented synthesis, exploration, and battle elements from past Atelier games under the Arland timeline.
  • Players get to explore a much bigger Arland Republic. Fans of the Arland timeline will appreciate the many changes and lore updates here.
  • According to the producer Junzo Hosoi, “the story in this work has a wide mix of choices along with solid story points. Each person’s journey leading up to the end of the game will be different.” Branching story paths and multiple endings, anyone?

The game will be out in 2019 for PS4 and Nintendo Switch in Japan. We’ll hear more news about the English version later.
