DC Universe Announces Swamp Thing Leads
By Alleef Ashaari|November 7, 2018|0 Comment
The DC Universe is gearing up for 2019, and now more details have arisen from deep in the swamps. The two lead actors for the upcoming Swamp Thing series have been announced for both the role of man and monster.
Derek Mears, who played Jason Vorhees in 2009’s Friday the 13th reboot, will be right at home portraying Swamp Thing. Andy Bean, who will be playing the adult Stanley in the upcoming It: Chapter Two, will be playing biologist Alec Holland.
In the comics, Alec Holland became the Swamp Thing when he survived an explosion thanks to a bio-restorative formula of his own creation. As the Swamp Thing, he’s one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe, due to his connection to the Green. Think of the Green as the force connecting all plant life on Earth. Swamp Thing basically commands the power of mother earth herself, and that means he is virtually immortal as long as plant life exists.
Since the Swamp Thing comics have always had a horror and supernatural vibe, that’s probably what DC Universe series will be going for in terms of overall tone. Mears and Bean join a diverse cast that comprises of Crystal Reed as Abby Arcane, Maria Sten as Liz Tremayne, Jennifer Beals as Lucilla Cable, Jeryl Prescott as Madame Xanadu, Virginia Madsen as Maria Sunderland, and Will Patton as Andy Sunderland.
The DC Universe streaming service initially launched in September 2018. Titans began airing last month, with Doom Patrol, Stargirl, and Swamp Thing slated to follow suit sometime in 2019. It will also feature animated fare like the highly-anticipated season 3 of Young Justice and the R-rated Harley Quinn series.
Unfortunately, the DC Universe streaming service is currently unavailable for those living outside of the U.S. Fans will be glad to know that Netflix has picked up Titans for international viewers, so Southeast Asians will still be able to catch that particular series on Netflix Asia.
However, there has been no official confirmation as to when the DC Universe will be made available outside of the U.S., or even if Netflix will be picking up other shows like Swamp Thing and Doom Patrol in 2019. Stay tuned on Kakuchopurei for more news.
