Fortnite and God of War Are the MVPs of the PlayStation Awards 2018

We have the winners for the PlayStation Awards 2018; some were expected but there were also several surprises as well.

The PlayStation Awards 2018 officially recognizes titles that have been released on the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita from October 1, 2017, to September 30, 2018. Unlike other awards shows like The Golden Joystick Awards or the upcoming The Game Awards, most of the PlayStation Awards focuses on the best-selling games instead of those it deems to be the best in any conventional category.

Here is the list of winners for each category:

Indies & Developer Award

These are 3 titles that have contributed to the expansion of PlayStation.

  • Abzu (Giant Squid)
  • Dead Cells (Motion Twin)
  • Ultimate Chicken Horse (Clever Endeavour Games)

PlayStation VR Award

These are 3 titles that have contributed to PlayStation VR.

  • The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim VR (Bethesda Softworks)
  • Gran Turismo Sport (Sony Interactive Entertainment)

Platinum Prize

  • The Last of Us Remastered (Sony Interactive Entertainment)
  • Persona 5 (Atlus)

Quadruple Platinum Prize

The only software title with an accumulated shipment quantity (including download quantity) of over four million copies.

  • Monster Hunter World (Capcom)

Personally, I’m happy to see that Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age managed to grab an award (especially one that I voted in myself). This JRPG masterpiece has gone virtually unnoticed by the mainstream gaming community at large, but it’s understandable for a game that caters to the niche classic turn-based JRPG crowd.

It’s also pretty impressive how Monster Hunter World sales exceeded four million copies, which means that it sold half of its total sales tally in Japan and Asia alone. We all knew Persona 5 was successful, but it’s still heartening to see that it won an award. Last but not least, Fortnite won two awards, despite always being the butt of many gamer’s jokes during this award season.
