Overwatch League: Washington Justice Debuts With Freedom-Inspired Branding

Washington DC’s new Overwatch League team has a name and it sounds like it came straight out of a comic book: Washington Justice. Brandishing the colors of freedom with its red, white and blue scheme, the new esports team is ready to bring justice to Blizzard‘s game.

The Washington Justice logo also seems to be comic-inspired and wouldn’t look out of place in an American comic book (which could be what the designers were aiming for). It’s a shield adorned with a star and stripes, as well as a subtle ‘W’ in tribute to the Washington Monument.

Announced members of the Washington Justice management and coaching staff include:

  • Kate Mitchell, Assistant General Manager of Washington Esports Ventures
  • Hyeong-seok “WizardHyeong” Kim, Head Coach
  • Kyoung Ey Molly “AVALLA” Kim, Assistant Coach
  • Mark “Obasill” Regush
  • Aaron Heckman
  • Mikael “mkL” Skjønhaug
  • Canaan “Shrugger” Carman

Overwatch League Season 2 in 2019 will consist of 20 teams, eight of which will be new teams debuting in the new season. Besides Washington Justice, the other 7 teams include those based in Chinese cities like Chengdu Hunters, Guangzhou Charge, and Hangzhou Spark, as well as the cities of Atlanta, Paris, Toronto, and Vancouver.

“In fact, DC’s official city motto is Justitia Omnibus, which translates to Justice for All,” said Washington Justice owner Mark Ein. “As a team representing the broader DMV region, it was important that our team identity reflects a value that unifies all of our community members, representing the full diversity of backgrounds and beliefs.”
