FF Creator Confirms 2019 to be the Year of FF7 Remake

Square Enix has long been notorious for extremely long development for many of its games. It took them more than a decade to release Final Fantasy 15 and the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3.

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake seems to be no different, as we have heard little about the project since it was initially announced in 2015. However, Final Fantasy creator and legend Tetsuya Nomura recently confirmed that will all change very soon.

In the latest issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu (as translated by Nova Crystallis), FF7 Remake director Tetsuya Nomura and producer Yoshinori Kitase both gave their own keywords about what to expect from them in 2019.

Nomura simply replied with the number, “7,” adding that “various plans will be announced.” Meanwhile, Kitase replied with “long-awaited,” explaining that he wants to fulfill the expectations of fans.

Those two keywords obviously point to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. What else could it be? “7” and “long-awaited” aptly describes the FF7 Remake, which means that more details and information will possibly be revealed in 2019.

Keep in mind that Square Enix only has two confirmed major releases in 2019 for now, including Kingdom Hearts 3 and Left Alive. While the former will certainly be a highlight in early 2019, the developer/publisher will probably need something to keep the hype and momentum going until the end of the year.

Revealing a trailer or even gameplay footage would be enough to sate fans’ appetites for now. E3 2019 or even PlayStation’s rumored E3 replacement could be the best and most likely time for a massive announcement.

In the meantime, rewatch the initial Final Fantasy VII Remake trailer from three years ago below.
