Will There Be More Disney Worlds in Kingdom Hearts 3?

Most Kingdom Hearts fans (including myself) still can’t believe that we’re less than a month away from the official release of Kingdom Hearts 3.

For the past few years, Square Enix has revealed several of the Disney worlds that will be included in the upcoming game. These include new ones like Frozen’s Arendelle, Big Hero 6’s San Fransokyo, Tangled’s Corona, Toy Story, and Monster Inc., as well as returning favorites like Pirates of the Caribbean and Hercules.

In an interview with Newsweek, Kingdom Hearts 3 co-director Tai Yasue confirmed that Square Enix isn’t planning to reveal any more surprise Disney worlds. This means that fans will have to wait until the game launches to discover what else the game has in store for us all.

Yasue also explained why they chose many of Disney’s relatively newer properties instead of the classics. He states that not only do these newer worlds appeal to a wider audience, they also offer “a lot of unique and crazy things you can do with a snowman that keeps on talking after having his head removed from his body, or a princess with super long golden hair” in terms of gameplay.

Since there are still more Disney worlds to be discovered, perhaps one of these worlds could be one based on Marvel. Imagine Sora, Donald and Goofy fighting alongside the Avengers. Add in a few more unexpected Disney and Final Fantasy characters/worlds and we’ll have our most ambitious crossover of all time.

On another note, this is Square Enix we’re talking about. If the plans for Kingdom Hearts 3 are anything like Final Fantasy XV, then we should be prepared for a slew of post-launch DLC. I do hope that won’t happen though.

I recently had the opportunity of playing a demo of Kingdom Hearts 3, which contained short segments from two worlds; Toy Story and Hercules. Check out my full hands-on preview here.

In the meantime, rewatch the Kingdom Hearts 3 Final Battle trailer below to tide you over until the game releases worldwide on January 29, 2019.
