Michelle Yeoh Set To Star In Her Own Star Trek Spinoff Series

CBS All Access has confirmed that Malaysian superstar Michelle Yeoh will be headlining her own Star Trek spinoff series as her starring role of Captain Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek Discovery. This is historic because she will be only the second female captain in more than 50 years of Star Trek history to lead her own series, after Kate Mulgrew’s Captain Kathryn Janeway from Star Trek Voyager (1995-2001).

What will the new Philippa Georgiou-focused Star Trek spinoff be about?

spoilerwarning01

The untitled Star Trek spinoff will follow Michelle Yeoh’s Captain Philippa Georgiou, or rather, her Mirror Universe counterpart, the former Emperor Philippa Georgiou of the Terran Empire.

She (Emperor Philippa Georgiou from the Mirror Universe) was last seen (impersonating the prime universe’s Captain Philippa Georgiou) at the end of Star Discovery being approached by members of the Starfleet’s secret intelligence division, Section 31. We will soon be witnessing her exploits with the shadow organization in the upcoming series.

Speaking with The Verge, Yeoh said, ““I’m so excited to continue telling these rich Star Trek stories. Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can’t wait to see where it all goes — certainly, I believe it will go where no WOMAN has ever gone before!”

There are currently two more Star Trek spinoff series in development, including a new series featuring the return of Sir Patrick Stewart’s Captain Jean-Luc Picard and a unique adult-oriented animated series titled, Star Trek: Lower Decks, which will focus on the often-ignored supporting crew members of starships.

In the meantime, Star Trek Discovery Season 2 is slated to premiere on 17 January 2019. As a massive Star Trek (Trekkie, Trekker) fan myself, I’m ecstatic to see the franchise is alive and doing well (in the realm of TV series, at least). Live long and prosper, folks.
