Resident Evil 2 Remake Will Get PS1 ’98 Character Skins

You know what’s missing in the Resident Evil 2 Remake? No, it’s not the gore or the suspense, or the tension; far from it. It’s missing the 90s robotic-looking polygons. Thankfully, we might be getting our wish.

Players in Japan will be able to get the “98 Classic” costume for Leon and Claire in the Resident Evil 2 remake as part of a special Japanese promotion starting 25th January. For example, if you buy specially-marked PSN Point Cards, you’ll get the costume for free. Don’t fret: they’ll be made free for everyone on 22nd March.

There’s no word on whether it’ll be available outside of the PS4 version; I do hope otherwise because playing as blocky versions of our heroes in a 2019 high-res remake is just so off-kilter it deserves to be shared with the world.

Stay tuned for our RE2 review and guide in the near future.
