Could The Official Alien Twitter Account Be Teasing A New Alien Game?

In space, no one can hear you scream, but that’s not stopping us from being excited thanks to a new post from the official Alien Twitter account earlier today. It looks like a tease for a new Alien game, which could possibly turn out to be the previously rumored Alien Blackout game.

Check out the post below. It comes with a short but vague teaser video, which begins by posing the question of “Who is Amanda Ripley?” That, of course, refers to the franchise’s iconic female protagonist, who also starred in the 2014 Sega and Creative Assembly game, Alien Isolation.

A tagline then appears underneath Amanda Ripley’s full name, stating “Read. Play. Watch.” What could this mean? If this brand new project isn’t a game and is simply a book or movie, why would they include the word “Play”?

Another interesting bit of information to note is that this year (2019) is the 40th anniversary of the classic sci-fi franchise. They could be gearing up for something big, despite the failure of 2017’s Alien Covenant and the cancellation of Neill Blompkamp’s Alien 5.

I have two theories for what this teaser could mean. First, it might be hinting at an official reveal of the rumored Alien Blackout game, for which 20th Century Fox filed a trademark application in November 2018.  Fans were devastated when it wasn’t even confirmed at The Game Awards 2018.

Another likely theory is that the teaser is actually pointing to the upcoming Alien Resistance comic by Dark Horse, which is slated to publish later this month on 23 January 2019. It is set to be a direct sequel to the Alien Isolation game, as well as feature Amanda Ripley as its protagonist.

Not to burst anyone’s bubble, but it is highly likely and more probable (at this point) that the video is teasing the upcoming Alien Resistance comic book miniseries, instead of a game or a movie. However, since the tagline mentions “Play” and “Watch” alongside “Read”, there’s also a chance that a new Alien game or movie could also be announced.
