Spider-Man PS4 Sales Exceed 9 Million Copies Worldwide

Spider-Man had one of its best years in 2018, the biggest of which was arguably Marvel’s Spider-Man for the PS4. That’s why it’s no surprise when Sony Interactive Entertainment Hong Kong Limited Singapore Branch (SIES) announced that sales for the Insomniac Games’ title have exceeded a whopping 9 million copies worldwide as of 25 November 2018.

This is a major achievement for both Sony and Insomniac Games, as well as Marvel Games. We at Kakuchopurei awarded Marvel’s Spider-Man our Game of the Year for 2018, despite fierce competition from other excellent games like God of War and Red Dead Redemption 2. For being what is arguably the quintessential Spidey video game experience to date, it truly deserves the amazing sales it’s getting.

Here’s Insomniac Games Community Director James Stevenson announcing the sales milestone on Twitter and thanking gamers for their support.

Additionally, SIES also announced that the PS4 has officially sold an incredible 91.6 million units worldwide as of 31 December 2018. In fact, more than 5.6 million units were sold during the 2018 holiday season alone. That means the PS4 long overtaken the PS3’s lifetime total of 83.8 million, with a clear shot of possibly surpassing the original PlayStation’s 102.49 million units soon.

PS4 Sales 91.6 Million

“Thanks to the continued support from our fans during the holiday season, we are pleased to announce that PS4 has reached 91.6 million units globally,” said Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO John Kodera. “We are also happy to announce that the monthly active users of PlayStation Network continue to show strong growth and has surpassed 90 million as of the end of November 2018.”
