The original Diablo remains one of the most iconic action RPGs in gaming history, having influenced countless other games since it was initially released in 1996. Now players can try out the legendary Blizzard title for themselves.
Blizzard Entertainment and GOG.com have teamed up to re-release select classic games from the developer’s library, the first of which is the original Diablo. Available now on GOG.com, this is the first time ever that the game has been made available via digital distribution.
Players can either opt for the classic experience and play Diablo exactly as it was more than 20 years ago (20 FPS SVGA graphics and Battle.net-compatible) or play the updated version of the game, which comes with a host of bug fixes.
Next, Blizzard is planning to re-release Warcraft: Orcs & Humans and Warcraft II. The release dates for both on GOG.com will be revealed at a later date.
GOG.com SVP Oleg Klapovsky said:
“Crawling through the original Diablo‘s dungeons, together with Blizzard, is a feeling of pure excitement. It’s a personal thing for many of us, and the most wished-for game in our community.
Taking the first few steps beneath the Tristram Cathedral, listening to the guidance of Cain the Elder—it’s all coming back, for old souls and newcomers alike.â€
Diablo is available now at GOG.com for $9.99. In the meantime, check out the trailer below.
