A Lord Of The Rings Game Starring Gollum Is In The Works

German developer Daedalic Entertainment has announced Lord of the Rings: Gollum, an action adventure game starring the character from J.R.R. Tolkien’s classic books. Not much is known about the game just yet but it’s slated to be released in 2021 for the PC and “relevant consoles”.
What we do know about Lord of the Rings: Gollum is that it won’t be based on the popular movie version of the series, That means an entirely new take on the character and not the iconic cinematic version of the character as portrayed by actor Andy Serkis. This is because Daedalic only owns the rights to the source material (books) since Warner Bros still owns the rights to the movies.
In an interview with PCGamer, Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann said:
“We already know what famous places we’ll be seeing in Middle-earth when you play the game. We’re concentrating on the character of Gollum, and we’re telling his story before we learn about what happens to him in the books. So it’s definitely new content that we’ll see.”
What’s most interesting about Lord of the Rings: Gollum is that the gameplay and plot of the game will be influenced by Gollum’s split personality and mental state. Fichtelmann continued:
“When you look at our history with storytelling games, it was obvious that we needed to do something where the protagonist has a conflict going on. This is also something you’ll play in the game.
You’ll come to decisions you have to make, and you’ll have the two voices talking to you. He may change his mind, and this is a clue about how it will play.”
At this point in time, we still don’t know what to expect from this game. 2021 is still two years away, and Lord Of The Rings: Gollum is still currently in its very early development stages.
