[Report] We Are Getting New Nintendo Switch Models Inspired By 3DS Variants
By Alleef Ashaari|March 27, 2019|1 Comment
Yesterday, a report by the Wall Street Journal claimed that Nintendo will be releasing two new Nintendo Switch models in 2019 (read the full story here). Today, sources close to Nintendo have reportedly revealed to Eurogamer that the new Nintendo Switch models were inspired by Nintendo 3DS variants.
These include the 2DS and New 3DS XL. As such, several more details have come to light about these new Nintendo Switch models.
Firstly, the “cheaper, more casual” variant of the Switch will be similar to the 2DS, in that the design will be made sturdier for the purpose of ‘kid-proofing’. The ‘budget’ Switch will also purportedly lose dock mode, which will limit its use to handheld only.
Meanwhile, the “enhanced, more powerful” variant of the Switch will be similar to the New 3DS XL, with smaller improvements and not major ones comparable to the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X. As such, we should probably expect upgraded RAM and processor, as well as increased internal storage space.
A Nintendo spokesperson also commented on the reports of the two new Nintendo Switch models when contacted by Eurogamer:
“We have made no announcements and we do not comment on rumour and speculation.”
I already speculated as much in my article yesterday, when I said that it wouldn’t benefit Nintendo in any way if they confirmed the reports too early. However, we’re only a few months away from E3 2019 at this point in time, so let’s wait and see if they have any surprises in store along the way.
