[Report] Watch Dogs 3 Might Be Set In London
By Syazwan Bahri|April 8, 2019|1 Comment
Ubisoft is subtly dropping hints that the next hacking action game, Watch Dogs 3, will be set in London.
The rumour has been in the air for some time after the 10GB patch drop that revised the ending of Watch Dogs 2. It’s rare to see a developer patching the ending of a game. The last time this happened was during the huge disappointment of an ending in Mass Effect 3.
The 10GB patch included references to Brixton, a location in London. We don’t know if it’s true or not, but Kotaku seems to think it’s true.
Let’s see what happened during the patched ending.
The appended cutscene can be seen below.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LthJw-6oAQg&]This cutscene plays before the game returns you to the open world. What piques my interest is this one bit of new dialogue, which are as follows;
TITLE: 51.462015,-0.112504
Man 1: How much of this is hyperbole? Has it really gone global?
Man 2: There are new Dedsec cells popping up everywhere. The Middle East, South America, Europe. And not just them. We can’t even keep up with all the new hacktivist groups.
Man 1: Alright. Make the call.
Man 2: You Sure?
Man 1: Do it.
The window for the dialogue recording has a slew of numbers which seems to be coordinates for a location, which when punched in Google Maps, will lead you to an area in Brixton.
Ubisoft’s response to this was simple: “The production team wanted to include a little something extra at the end of the campaign to expand the Watch Dogs lore and hint at the potential future of DedSec.â€
It would be interesting to see how this location affects the game. For starters, I’m wondering which London accent will the protagonist be using, or more importantly, how combat is affected since the UK has very strict gun laws.
All in all, we should wait for more confirmation before we jump to conclusions.
