Iraq Parliament Calls To Ban Fortnite and PUBG
By Syazwan Bahri|April 20, 2019|1 Comment
The Iraqi parliament has voted to ban a number of battle royales on the grounds that they give out a negative influence.
The games in question are Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds.
Reuters pointed out that the government believes that the game has no place in a country that has seen tons of conflict, especially from a game that asks you to eliminate everyone in a last-man-standing fight to the death.
The ban came “due to the negative effects caused by some electronic games on the health, culture, and security of Iraqi society, including societal and moral threats to children and youth,†according to the text of the resolution.
The government’s decision to ban the games come from India’s decision to ban PUBG, as well as some official South Asian countries. I really hope they didn’t refer to Malaysia when they said ‘South Asian’.
I do believe that video games do not make people violent, but in a war-torn country like Iraq, I understand their notion of banning such games.
