Avengers Infinity War Could Have Featured This Cosmic Marvel Character

Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame featured every character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and almost effortlessly at that. Still, fans wonder if new characters could have been introduced in those two movies.

In an interview with the New York Times, Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely revealed one Marvel character that they wanted to feature but ultimately couldn’t.

This character is a cosmic entity in Marvel Comics, first appearing in Strange Tales issues 157 to 163 meeting with Doctor Strange. He is the second most powerful single being in the Marvel Multiverse after the One-Above-All (who is basically God), and no, it’s not Galactus.

It’s this giant yellow three-headed guy; the Living Tribunal!

Living Tribunal

Markus said that they wanted to feature the Living Tribunal in the fight between Thanos and the Avengers on the planet Titan in Avengers Infinity War. However, McFeely clarified that the reason why they couldn’t introduce the Living Tribunal:

“Whoa. He’s got three heads. It would indicate a whole different level of architecture to the universe and I think that was too much to just throw in.”

It’s probably the same reason why Kevin Feige and the folks at Marvel Studios didn’t utilize Thanos’ original motivation for gathering the Infinity Stones in the comics: to impress Mistress Death because he’s in love with her. Casual audiences would likely find that notion too farfetched to accept.

Fortunately for fans of the comics, Markus added that the idea to introduce the Living Tribunal is still in consideration. This is expected, considering Marvel Studios is heading into even deeper cosmic territory with their upcoming The Eternals movie.
