Marvel & Hulu Announce Ghost Rider & Helstrom TV Series
By Alleef Ashaari|May 2, 2019|0 Comment
Marvel Television and Hulu have announced Marvel’s Ghost Rider and Marvel’s Helstrom, two new live-action TV series which are slated to arrive in 2020 (via Marvel). This will be separate from Marvel Studios’ upcoming TV series on Disney Plus like WandaVision, Falcon & Winter Soldier and Loki.
Marvel’s Ghost Rider follows Robbie Reyes, with Gabriel Luna reprising his role from Agents of SHIELD. However, this will be a new version of the character unrelated to the one introduced in Agents of SHIELD.
He is described as the quintessential antihero, who lives on the Texas/Mexico border, consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. When he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters but struggles to control the power he wields.
Marvel’s Helstrom follows Daimon and Ana Helstrom, the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The siblings have a complicated dynamic as they track down the worst of humanity, each with their attitude and skills.
No actors/actresses have been announced for the roles of Daimon and Ana Helstrom as of yet. However, we do know that both new shows will co-habit a shared universe with the upcoming season 3 of Marvel’s Runaways.
Several adult animated series are in development as well, including Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., Marvel’s Hit Monkey, Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show, and Marvel’s Howard the Duck. These will all culminate in a crossover event, Marvel’s The Offenders.
In the comics, Robbie Reyes is currently the Ghost Rider, and the fourth to hold the mantle after Johnny Blaze, Danny Ketch, and Alejandra Jones. His body is inhabited by a Spirit of Vengeance named Eli Morrow.
Meanwhile, Daimon Hellstrom is the son of a demon named Marduk Kurios, who is said to be the biblical Satan. He has a sister named Satana Hellstrom. The TV series is opting for ‘Helstrom’ instead of ‘Hellstrom’, and they’re giving Satana a human name, Ana.
It’s great to see a more underrated side of Marvel given live-action adaptations. The magical side of Marvel is not limited to only Doctor Strange so it will be great to see it exposed to a wider audience. Perhaps we might even see other characters in these new shows, including the likes of Blade, Werewolf By Night, Jennifer Kale, and more.
Could all this be leading to a Midnight Sons crossover? Imagine that to be like the supernatural or magical version of an Avengers team. They could also go with the more recent moniker for a magical team, Spirits of Vengeance, which is more likely considering that term was mentioned in the press release. Fingers crossed.
