Apex Legends Anti-Cheat System Updated To Great Results

Drew McCoy, Apex Legends‘ project lead, updated us players last week with a reassuring message, and part of it is about combatting the rampant hacking that has plagued the battle royale. And as promised last week, Respawn has updated us with their progress on the battle against hackers.

McCoy said that they have been working closely with key experts across EA, including EA Security and Fraud, the Origin teams, and fellow developers at DICE, FIFA, and Capital Games, in addition to Easy-Anti-Cheat. A few updates have been rolled out, while other updates will take some time before it is implemented.

McCoy also reminded that they couldn’t disclose in more detail as to avoid giving a heads up to the cheat makers, but McCoy assured us that they are tackling this issue from every angle; from improvements in detecting cheaters, to bolstering resources and tools, to improving processes and other sneaky things to combat sellers and cheaters.

Here are some high-level stats for our legends out there;

  • The recently added in-game reporting tool has had a big impact on discovering new cheats, including previously undetectable cheats that are now being found automatically via EAC
  • Total bans are now at 770K players
  • We have blocked over 300K account creations
  • We have banned over 4,000 cheat seller accounts (spammers) in the last 20 days
  • Total matches on PC impacted by cheaters or spammers have been reduced by over half in the last month due to recent efforts.

Respawn takes hacking seriously, and have a large number of resources tackling it from a variety of angles. It is a constant war with the cheat makers that they will continue to fight.
