[Report] Call Of Duty 2020 To Be Black Ops 5

Call Of Duty 2019 (it could be Modern Warfare 4) hasn’t even been officially announced yet but there are already reports of what next year’s entry in the long-running annual franchise would be. According to various sources (via Kotaku’s Jason Schreier), studios Raven and Sledgehammer are no longer leading the project, but it is now Treyarch who has taken over the reins.

Treyarch was responsible for all the Black Ops titles, including 2018’s Call Of Duty Black Ops 4. Activision is now assigning the developer to Call Of Duty Black Ops 5 for 2020. Here are some details about the reportedly upcoming game by those same sources:

  • It will feature a single-player campaign set during the Cold War, building and expanding on the work already done by Raven and Sledgehammer
  • It will be a cross-gen game, releasing for the PS4 and Xbox One as well as the next generation of those consoles

There are conflicting reports on what the developers at Treyarch actually feel about this turn of events. This is because the company will now only have two years to develop the next Call Of Duty game, instead of the usual three years.

Some are already bracing themselves for a brutal crunch like they previously experienced with Call Of Duty Black Ops 4, while others are actually excited at the prospect of another game so soon, as they purportedly have a concrete plan now.

Meanwhile, one possible primary reason for why Activision removed Raven and Sledgehammer from Call Of Duty 2020 is the tension between the staff at both companies, which turned the project in development into a “mess”. They will now support Treyarch in developing Call Of Duty Black Ops 5.
