Jessica Jones Season 3 Release Date Announced

Netflix has finally announced the official release date for Jessica Jones Season 3, which will also be the series’ final season and the last of the Marvel Netflix franchise. The premiere date was unveiled with the release of a brief new trailer for the upcoming season.

In the Jessica Jones Season 3 trailer, we can hear a creepy voice stalking our titular hero from the shadows, but we still have no idea who it might be. The official description for the new season sheds more light on what viewers can look forward to:

“When Jessica (Krysten Ritter) crosses paths with a highly intelligent psychopath, she and Trish (Rachael Taylor) must repair their fractured relationship and team up to take him down.

But a devastating loss reveals their conflicting ideas of heroism and sets them on a collision course that will forever change them both.”

At the end of Season 2, Jessica wasn’t friends with Trish anymore, which is understandable, considering how the latter killed Jessica’s mom. It looks like this new villain, whoever it is, will be powerful enough to require them to work together again despite their ‘differences’.

Jessica Jones Season 3 will also star returning cast members Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix) as Jeri Hogarth, Eka Darvill (Empire) as Malcolm Ducasse, and Rebecca DeMornay (The Hand that Rocks the Cradle) as Dorothy Walker, Trish’s mom. The season will also feature the acting talents of Benjamin Walker (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), Jeremy Bobb (Russian Doll), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Tiffany Mack (Hap and Leonard), Jessica Frances Dukes (The Good Wife), and Aneesh Sheth (New Amsterdam) in unknown roles.

With Jessica Jones turning out to be the last of the Marvel Netflix franchise, let’s hope it goes out with a bang, acting as a swansong for a universe that began with such potential but ultimately broke down due to the weaker links in the chain and admittedly foolish writing (looking at you, Iron Fist).

13 new episodes of Jessica Jones Season 3 will premiere on 14 June 2019. In the meantime, check out the trailer below or head on over here to find out more about why I think the death of the Marvel Netflix franchise is a good thing.
