New Swamp Thing Trailer Digs Into Its Horror Roots
By Alleef Ashaari|May 29, 2019|0 Comment
DC Universe has unleashed the first full trailer for its upcoming new series, Swamp Thing, which is slated to make its debut on 31 May 2019. It is set to be the third original programming on the streaming service after Titans and Doom Patrol, both of which have ended their first seasons.
Unlike other DC properties, Swamp Thing began life in the comics as a horror-based character when he was created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson in 1971. Ever since then, he’s grown into a more traditional DC character or magical superhero in the vein of John Constantine and Zatanna.
However, DC Universe’s Swamp Thing series will delve deep into the character’s horror and supernatural roots for something unique and fresh in the comic book TV adaptation genre.
The official description for Swamp Thing reads:
“Swamp Thing follows Abby Arcane as she investigates what seems to be a deadly swamp-born virus in a small town in Louisiana but soon discovers that the swamp holds mystical and terrifying secrets.
When unexplainable and chilling horrors emerge from the murky marsh, no one is safe.â€
Andy Bean (Power) stars as Alec Holland, the scientist who transforms into the titular Swamp Thing (Derek Mears), DC alum Crystal Reed (Gotham) as Abby Arcane, Jennifer Beals (The L Word) as Sheriff Lucilia Cable, Maria Sten (Channel Zero) as reporter Liz Treymane, Will Patton (Falling Skies) as the scheming Avery Sunderland, and Kevin Durand (The Strain) as Jason Woodrue AKA antagonist/villain Floronic Man.
The series will also introduce the live-action incarnations of other magical characters from the rich tapestry of DC Comics, including the likes of Blue Devil (Ian Ziering of Beverly Hills 90210) and Madame Xanadu (Jeryl Prescott of The Walking Dead).
Master of horror and Aquaman director James Wan will be one of the executive producers for Swamp Thing. While waiting for the series to premiere on 31 May 2019, check out the trailer below.
