Netflix’s Narnia Reboot Hires Coco Writer As Creative Architect

Did anyone else remember that Netflix bought the rights to all of CS Lewis’ Chronicles Of Narnia books and are planning to make a rebooted movie/TV franchise? Well, I’m here to remind everyone of that, because the streaming giant has just posted a new update for their Narnia plans.

In a post on Twitter, Netflix announced that Pixar’s Coco co-writer Matthew Aldrich will serve as the creative architect, overseeing the development of all films and shows adapted from Chronicles Of Narnia.

This essentially means that he will be to the new Netflix Narnia universe what Kevin Feige is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). However, as of now, we still don’t know which of the seven Narnia books that Netflix will be adapting first.

Contrary to what most people think, while The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe is the most popular in the series (since it was the first one to be adapted into a movie and the first book to be published), the first novel in the series according to chronological events is actually The Magician’s Nephew.

The last Narnia movie was 2010’s The Voyage of the Dawn Treader by 20th Century Fox. Fox already had plans for a sequel, an adaptation of The Silver Chair, but their rights to the Narnia franchise expired in 2018 before they could start producing it. That was when Netflix grabbed the opportunity and bought up all the rights.

As someone who has read (and loves) all the Chronicles Of Narnia books, I’m excited to see what a more cohesively-planned series of Narnia adaptations would be like.
