E3 2019: Square Enix Reminds Us That It’s Still Localizing New SaGa Games
Remember the SaGa series, a bunch of Squaresoft JRPGs where non-linearity and an obtuse levelling-up system help make it stand out among its other RPG contemporaries? No you didn’t, because you were busy playing other Squaresoft RPGs with uppercase Fs in their titles.
No matter; Square Enix plans to localize its previous remasters and new SaGa entries in English in the near future: Romancing SaGa 3 (1995, originally on the SNES) and SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions.
The former is a remaster not unlike its prequel Romancing SaGa 2 on major consoles and on PC. The third game in the series deals with an oncoming cosmic disaster where you have to find a prophesized child of destiny to stop the disaster 300 years in the making. The game introduced branching story paths, a plethora of heroes to pick from, and an open buffet of skills to customize your party with. It was pretty detailed for its time.
The latter game is an all-new 3D-tailored turn-based RPG featuring freedom of choice and a custom party with five player characters to work with. The plot involves setting out a new future in a world where an Empire is left purposeless after defeating a major evil. It’ll basically follow the themes and open world design of past SaGa games, but in a new less and obtuse form.
Check out the trailer below.
Romancing Saga 3 will be out for PS4, PS Vita, Nintendo Switch, PC, Xbox One, iOS, and Android. SaGa Scarlet Grace: Ambitions will be out for PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android. Both games have yet to reveal their respective release windows.
