The Story Behind Hentai Haven And The Creator’s Premature Ejection

#HHisdead

– wrote Papa HH, the anonymous founder of Hentai Haven, in a post detailing how a partner company took over his website and told him to get lost. Well, that’s just one side of this story.

HHisdead

For those of you who aren’t in the know, Hentai Haven is (was?) an extremely popular free pornography website that mainly hosted hentai videos.

The website had an extensive collection of high quality videos laid out in a user-friendly interface. Videos are properly titled and categorised according to genre and tags while also having adequate English subtitles. Again, all of that was absolutely free.

FAKKU is another hentai website but instead of videos, it allowed users to read porn comics/manga. The site started out just like Hentai Haven, hosting all of its content for free without any form of proper licensing. Starting from 2011, FAKKU slowly began its process of becoming a legitimate site and as of today, it’s the largest English-language hentai publisher in the world. Users pay a monthly subscription fee and get access to most of the site’s content.

What The Picture Says

The two companies would later meet after Hentai Haven was suddenly shut down in December 2018. Bearing in mind recent developments, the shutdown most probably occurred due to legal issues since it was only a matter of time before the artists and producers in Japan realised people were enjoying their work for free.

This is where FAKKU comes in and saves the day. Or so Papa HH thought…

After that it was just months and months of silence until Hentai Haven was relaunched in May 2019. Fans returned with the force of a thousands suns, enough to power a nuclear bomb with their collective horny-energy. Well, it at least did a number on the website’s servers.

After only two months of joy and ecstasy, Hentai Haven was again embroiled in another problem. Cue Papa HH’s message that I put up at the beginning of this article.

Papa HH also tweeted the message on his Twitter account and not too long afterwards, FAKKU founder Jacob Grady tweeted out his response (shown below). The tweet has been pinned to his profile.

Prior to tweeting this, Jacob had also quoted one of Papa HH’s tweets to tell people to stop sending FAKKU employees death threats. The tweet has been deleted.

Jacob wasn’t the only one making statements as former Hentai Haven staff members such as @heavenrend and @Fyurie also came out to express their dissatisfaction. The two tweeted out that Hentai Haven still owed them money for the work they’ve done. As of writing this, the website’s creator have reached out to them and paid them what they deserved.

It’s also worth mentioning that the staff members said the owner of HH has been completely silence for months since around the time FAKKU stepped in and only reappeared to make the #HHisdead statement.

Earlier today (9 July 2019), Papa HH tweeted that he and Jacob had come to an agreement (via Kotaku) of sorts and things are “looking good!” and Jacob himself has retweeted the tweet.

This came just after Papa HH’s (deleted) tweets in response to Jacob’s earlier note. Some observers had saved the response so you can read them here:

That’s all we’ve got so far.

Loyal supporters of Hentai Haven are no doubt furious at FAKKU for what seems to a completely immoral move of capitalistic greed disguised through the seemingly-generous intention of helping Hentai Haven go legit.

On the other side, more stories and testimonies of how Hentai Haven hasn’t actually been doing much to go legit until FAKKU came along are also cropping up. Legally speaking, Hentai Haven has definitely been doing something wrong and there’s no defending it on that basis.

So Many Questions…

bibleblack-innocent_not

The catch here is that that’s exactly how FAKKU started. They were profiting off other people’s work but managed to legitimize themselves before anyone “offered help” and pulled the rug from under their feet.

Why didn’t FAKKU produce the proper paperwork when they offered to help Hentai Haven with the legal issues? Why make it difficult for Papa HH to understand what was within and outside of his rights? Did they honestly inform Papa HH about the legal issues he was about to face?

Did Papa HH actually work towards legitimizing Hentai Haven as he said he was going to? Why did he agree to a contract without requesting proper paperwork? Was he pressured by an over-exaggeration of the problems Hentai Haven would face?

There’s a lot of questions that need answering and supporters of both sides should remain calm and wait for them to be properly answered.
