The Top 5 Disney Animated Films That Would Benefit From A House Of Mouse Remake
What Is It? It’s a fantasy story based loosely on the Chronicles of Prydain book that’s trying to be dark and edgy, hence the PG rating.
Why It Needs Remaking? The film bombed because it wasn’t on-par with Disney’s past films in delivering compelling characters, exciting premises, and compelling villains and scripts. As nice as it was to see the film at its animation apex, it’s all hollow when you realize how goddamn annoying our hero and his furry Gollum sidekick was. Also, the original film’s production suffered the case of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
A live-action remake following the style of Disney’s Maleficent films, with its mix of light and dark fantasy, can make the new Black Cauldron work. The film should keep its creepy imagery; not much can shock the kids of today anyway. While the cast needs more fleshing out and more to do instead of plodding along with the plot, the characters who need the most reworking are Taran and Gurgi. The former shouldn’t come off as too whiney and self-absorbed while the latter shouldn’t be frickin’ annoying.
Above all else, the film needs a sense of humour. Why not take a page from recent fantastical Disney fares like Frozen and Moana and then putting a fantasy spin in the new Black Cauldron? Or better yet, bring in the book’s Welsh influences into the show, from speech, mannerisms, and the world.
Let us know which other Disney films would be better if it were remade by the House of Mouse. We’re always listening; ping us on Facebook!
