Adorable Pikachu Army Invades Yokohama, Japan

Every year since 2014, a sea of cute yellow Pikachus invade the city of Yokohama, Japan in a bid to establish a new independent Pikachu nation. In spite of that, people still enjoy the presence of these adorable overgrown rodents as the sixth annual Pikachu Outbreak event arrives this week.

Over 2000 dancing Pikachus is participating in this year’s occasion, along with fans who adorn themselves with Pikachu gear and memorabilia.  What’s fascinating about the event is that it is entirely free, as it takes place across the city.

According to Kotaku, the Pokémon Company doesn’t really care about how many people attend the event or how much money it makes for them. With the upcoming Pokémon Sword and Shield slated for release in about three months (on 15 November 2019), they need all the positive franchise publicity they can get.

Pikachu Outbreak Festival 2019 is taking place from now until 12 August 2019 in Yokohama, Japan. There are three main venues where three different performances occur: The Streets, The Seas, and The Forest, as well as parades and even a Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Digital Stamp Rally. Head on over to the official website here for the full schedule and itinerary.
