Capcom Removes Hong Kong From Pro Tour Lineup Due To Civil Unrest
By Alleef Ashaari|August 8, 2019|0 Comment
Everyone not living under the rock knows that things are not peachy in Hong Kong right now, with protests and riots taking place in the streets of the city. Due to this ongoing civic unrest still raging on with no clear end in sight, Capcom has announced that they will be removing Hong Kong from its Pro Tour lineup.
The upcoming Esports Festival Hong Kong is supposed to take place from 25 to 28 August 2019, and host a Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition tournament as part of this year’s Capcom Pro Tour. However, in order to keep the community and players safe “out of potential harm”, it has been cancelled.
Capcom confirms at the end of its official blog post that this is indeed a cancellation and not simply a postponement, as the prizes and points allocated for the Hong Kong tournament will not be replaced with any new or existing Premier.
Even if the organisers for Esports Festival Hong Kong do decide to hold a Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition, the points will not be counted by Capcom.
