11. Sofia’s dogs (John Wick 3: Parabellum)

The John Wick series is known for making the titular assassin use everything at his disposal as a weapon and the third entry introduced Sofia whose main weapons are her two German Shepherds who each wear body armour and can disable any assailant as quickly as John Wick himself.

12. Dogmeat (Fallout series)

No Fallout game is complete without our favourite four-legged companion Dogmeat. From the first Fallout game up to Fallout 4, there will always be a Dogmeat waiting for you and every time I came across Dogmeat across the different Fallout games, it was just like reuniting with an old friend.

13. Lesser Dog (Undertale)

Before you come at me saying “what about [insert name] dog from Undertale?”, know that I love every single dog in Undertale. Lesser Dog just happens to be my favourite because every time you pet him, his neck becomes longer. Pet him enough times, he ventures forth to a place no dog has ever gone.

14. Cheese Legs (Lisa: The Painful)

Lisa is a game that doesn’t mind showing you that it operates on a reality so different from ours. The first enemy you have to fight in the game is a dog… named Cheese Legs. There’s no option to spare him or pet him though but he probably deserves getting beat up.

15. Missile (Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective)

Missile isn’t just a companion, unlike in most other games. He’s actually an important character whose powers are needed to beat the game. Also, he’s a ghost dog.

16. Akamaru (Naruto)

Akamaru is a dog that can fight and not just in the conventional sense. He can use the Beast Human Clone technique to transform himself into looking just like his master Kiba. Even better, he can fuse together with Kiba to become a giant two-headed wolf.

17. Mira (Silent Hill 2)

The OG WTF doggo. Explaining why she’s a legend in the video game community will take out all the fun. See it for yourself.

18. Isabelle (Animal Crossing)

Isabelle acts as your secretary and assistant when you become the town mayor in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. She’s helpful, cheerful, and a bit of ditz. Okay, she’s actually a major ditz.

19. Sam (Sam & Max)

If you grew up playing point and click games, then you ought to remember the formal wearing dog detective Sam from Sam & Max. Fun fact, he’s also voiced by the man who voices Disney’s Goofy. You can definitely hear it whenever he says Max.

20. Krypto (Superman)

We’ve got Superman, Superboy, and Supergirl. It wouldn’t be a complete family without a Superdog and that’s who Krypto is. In some comics, he’d have approximately human-level intelligence and in others, he’s just a dog with superpowers. Either way, still a good boy.
