The Joker Gets The Last Laugh In His Final Trailer

Warner Bros. has released the second and final trailer for the upcoming Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince Of Crime. According to the official description, it will be “an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen.”

This version of Joker has a name, Arthur Fleck. He works as a clown-for-hire during the day and a stand-up comedian at night. While director Todd Phillips has previously mentioned how his interpretation of the iconic villain will not be following the comics, this synopsis of the movie (from the new trailer) looks incredibly suspect:

“Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events in this gritty character study.”

The most prominent Joker origin story in comics is Alan Moore’s Batman: The Killing Joke (1988), in which the Joker began as a family man who started his descent into madness when his career as a stand-up comedian failed to take off, resulting in the ‘one bad day’ when he turned to a life of crime and fell into a vat of chemicals.

Sound familiar? Both versions of the Joker are stand-up comedians and both experiences one bad day (or one bad decision) that turns them into the legendary villain.

Joker Final Trailer

It will be interesting to see how the Joker movie will turn out, even though it ultimately doesn’t make much sense that this version of Joker could still be Batman’s nemesis, considering that Fleck is his 40s and Bruce Wayne is a child.

The Joker movie also stars Robert De Niro as Franklin, Zazie Beetz as Sophie Dumond, Brett Cullen as Thomas Wayne, and Dante Pereira-Olson as Bruce Wayne. Joker is slated to release on 4 October 2019. In the meantime, check out the final trailer below.
