TGS 2019: Nioh 2 Brings Back A Familiar Enemy; Launches Early 2020

We’re all still recovering from the pain and misery that Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has been inflicting on our poor souls. Fortunately, we’ll be able to lick our wounds clean just in time for the release of another “be better or die trying” demon-slaying samurai game: Nioh 2.
A leaked trailer (which has now been re-uploaded properly on the PlayStation YouTube channel) was put up on YouTube just about a day before the start of Tokyo Game Show 2019.
It doesn’t show a lot of gameplay but now we know a bit of context as to when Nioh 2 will take place. Thankfully, PlayStation has provided English captions for the fully Japanese trailer so make sure to turn them on.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fFDnUkiZQZ0&w=560&h=315]I’m 99% sure that the man at the end of the trailer is none other than Oda Nobunaga himself, infamous Japanese daimyo and also the big bad of the first game. The missing goatee-of-evil, shiny black hair, and neat eyebrows clearly indicates that we’re looking at a younger but no less ambitious version of Nobunaga.
Unfortunately, I’m still really clueless what’s really going on in the trailer but I assume it has something to do with our player character either trying to stop Nobunaga or perhaps even joining his ranks. Indeed it’ll be exciting to see more younger versions of characters we met in the first Nioh.
On the gameplay side of things, we get to see some of that Oni transformation feature that’s being promoted as one of the sequel’s biggest changes. Also shown were the plethora bosses and enemies that will punish for every single little mistake you made. Ah, can’t wait to be bodied by more demons.
Oda Nobunaga from the first Nioh.
Seeing as how a demo of the game will be playable at TGS 2019, it’s highly likely that the game is nearing completion and judging by that early 2020 release announcement, I’m hoping that it comes out in January 2020.
Do note that the trailer only explicitly shows that this is for the PS4 and no other platforms so we’ll have to wait and see if the game will be a PS4 exclusive or also released for PC and other consoles.
