Aloy’s return may be imminent.
After releasing Horizon Zero Dawn to both critical acclaim and great sales in 2017 (and following that up with an incredible expansion in the form of The Frozen Wilds), Guerilla Games has been pretty quiet, not announcing anything officially new since then.
That has changed.
Due to recently-added job listings on its official website less than two weeks ago, we now know that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 might be in active development, as Guerilla Games is currently hiring for people to work on the sequel. That fact is blatantly stated for one vacancy in particular; the role of Technical Vegetation Artist.
While that job may sound like small beans, the listing description may have inadvertently confirmed that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 is currently in the works at Guerilla Games. The job listing introduction states:
“Within Guerrilla, we have four teams dedicated to creating the stunning environments of HORIZON.
One team focuses on the creation of lush and stunning vegetation.
We build these 3D models from scratch, so our world dressing teams can deliver our immersive world with industry-benchmark graphics.”
While none of the other new job listings outright mentions Horizon or Horizon Zero Dawn 2 like in the job description for Technical Vegetation Artist, many of them are for major jobs like Lead Game Designer, Senior Game Programmer, and more. These hint at a massive undertaking currently ongoing at Guerilla Games, which is most likely for a AAA game, lending even more credence that it could be Horizon Zero Dawn 2.
Earlier this year, actress Janina Gavankar (who played the character Tatai in the Horizon Zero Dawn expansion The Frozen Wilds) already accidentally revealed to the world that Guerilla Games is making a sequel. Therefore, it’s not such a surprise that the developer is taking it up a notch in terms of development.
It sounds like Guerilla Games is gearing up to make Horizon Zero Dawn 2 a launch title for the PS5, which is entirely possible considering that the next-gen console is still at least one year away from now. We’ll have to wait and see what they have in store for us in the near future.
