[Report] After 30 Years, The Simpsons Will Finally End

Believe it or not, The Simpsons have been around for almost 30 years. The show is currently on its 31st season and still gets millions of viewers in the US.

Maybe it’s finally time to put the yellow family to rest. Not in the macabre way, I mean.

Appearing on a podcast hosted by joe.ie, the show’s opening theme composer Danny Elfman said that the show will soon come to an end. No specifics were given but it seems that it will be in “its last year”, potentially indicating that the show will be ending sometime in 2020 after the conclusion of its 31st season or maybe even ending with a 32nd season.

“From what I’ve heard it will be coming to an end. I don’t know for a fact, but I’ve heard that it will be in its last year.”

– Danny Elfman

Elfman also expressed how surprised he was to see the show coming this far. “I wrote this crazy piece of music, and I expected no one would hear it, because I really did not think the show had a chance in hell.” he said. Seeing as how The Simpsons is currently the world’s longest running animated show and also the longest-running US sitcom of all time, I’m sure it’s even a surprise to its creator Matt Groening.

It’s worth noting that The Simpsons is currently one of the shows that’s available in full on Disney+. If the show does end up closing its curtains next year, then it would be quite the funny story for the execs at Disney.

Thanks, Guardian.
