The Top Netflix Shows Malaysia Has Been Watching In 2019
By Burhan Zamri|December 30, 2019|0 Comment
TV is dead. Well, maybe not yet but the rise of streaming services such as Netflix has undoubtedly accelerated the demise of channel-based television. It’s been a great year for Netflix in Malaysia so let’s take a look at what we all watched this year.
Netflix Malaysia has just announced a list of its most popular releases according to Malaysian viewers. The list is ranked by the number of accounts watching at least two minutes of a series, movie, or special during its first 27 days on Netflix in 2019.
Here’s the list:
- 6 Underground
- Murder Mystery
- The Witcher
- Isn’t It Romantic
- Tall Girl
- Triple Frontier
- The Perfect Date
- The Umbrella Academy
- Secret Obsession
- Fractured
It’s surprising to see 6 Underground and The Witcher ranking so high on the list since both of them only came out in December. The fact that The Witcher is the third most popular show on the platform shows that we Malaysians just love watching Henry Cavill slay monsters.
Similar to other parts of the world, the Malaysian audience are big fans of action and romance. I’m also quite happy to see that a show like The Umbrella Academy is appreciated by the local market despite our relatively low interest in comic books.
With new seasons for The Witcher and The Umbrella Academy already greenlit, we can expect a bright future for Netflix here in Malaysia. Not to mention, we’re also getting a new season of Narcos: Mexico, a bunch of new anime shows and movies, and more.
