Kakuchopurei’s Best Of 2019: Disco Elysium
By Burhanudin Zamri|January 3, 2020|0 Comment
Some gamers would argue that reading is the worst part of playing a video game. This includes RPG players who often skip the many lore entries scattered in books and other collectibles.
Well, Disco Elysium is an RPG that makes you spend 99% of the time reading. Wait, hear me out.
Those who have played Disco Elysium would sometimes say that you’d need an appetite for visual novels to enjoy this game. That’s half-true; as long as you have an interest in a good mystery case filled with intriguing characters, you’re good to go.
Most of Disco Elysium‘s appeal can be found in the main character. You play as a detective who’s pretty much out of his mind. You’ll manoeuvre through his existential crisis through conversations with his 24 different personalities while trying to solve the murder mystery at hand.
It needs to be said that this is indeed a depressing game. The visuals are purposely washed out to signify decay and almost every person you meet gives you more reasons to hate the world.
Still, it has a melancholic beauty to it. A sense of dark humour that’s intelligently written.
