Dota 2 Hit Six-Year Low in Player Count

Dota 2 fans boast of having one of the largest esports communities and players bases in the world. Little do these people know that the MOBA game is currently experiencing its lowest player count since 2014.

Why is that? According to Dot Esports, the average player count for Dota 2 has fallen below 385,000, while the peak player count has continued to dip, reaching a pathetic 627,790 (for the month of December 2019).

The glaring difference is made more apparent, considering that Dota 2 managed to reach a peak player count of more than one million just earlier in January 2019.

What’s the problem with Dota 2? Well, there are no new players coming in, due to the current level of already present in the community and the steep learning curve.

As for older players, nothing is keeping them playing, despite all the pointless updates, new characters, and meta overhauls. Valve needs to do something to revitalize Dota 2, or it will be populated with nothing but sketelons.
