Janda Hunters’s Top 10 Games Of 2019

2019 was a slow time for games, understandable since its the end of the Xbox 1 and ps4s life cycle, and everybody’s focusing on 2020. However, a few gems and surprises did get released. Here’s my best of 2019.

*Note that I didn’t play Control and Sekiro due to my reluctance to touch anything from From Software; lol.

10. Days Gone

Zombies. Lots of them…

Story and gameplay-wise it lacks polish but its a decent attempt to quench my zombie-killing thirst, at least until The Last Of Us 2 comes out.

9. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

bloodstained-ritual-of-the-night

I must admit I’m a rabid Castlevania fan, especially the IGAvania stuff. This game really takes me back to my hundreds of hours playing Symphony of The Night so it’s here.

Also, zombies.

8. Mortal Kombat 11

NRS games are not the most competitive or deepest fighting games, but it is the most flashy and Hollywood out of all of them.

7. Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order

Everybody was sceptical when another Star Wars game was announced, especially since it was released by EA and the controversy of BattleFront 2, but they managed to surprise with a decent single-player game and no loot boxes.

6. Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare

It’s an attempt to appease the fans of the old Modern Warfare, and a valiant one at that. The single-player campaign is a bit short by today’s standards, but multiplayer is hours lost without realizing.

5. Death Stranding

After much hype, this is what it boils down to…

DS is a bit disappointing in terms of what it actually delivers. A slow burner of a title, it picks up quite slow, and the story could be confusing at times. But when it picks up, it’s a Kojima game with all the greatest visuals that can come out from a 6-year-old console.

Great design, sound and visuals almost make this a GOTY winner, but the slow pace and convoluted stops this from being one of the greats.

4. Apex Legends

The game doesn’t offer in terms of bringing anything new, battle royale is years old by now and class selection even more, but it manages to blend the formula decently resulting in hundreds of hours lost.

3. Pokémon Sword/Shield

It’s not anything new, but it works. It ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

2. Devil May Cry V

It’s rare that any company want’s to dabble in a pure action game like they did in the ps2, ps3 era as they did with Dante’s Inferno, God Hand and Bayonetta in the past. Even God Of war has become an action RPG-esque game albeit an excellent one.

However, Capcom proves that they are a master of this genre. With popcorn Hollywood visuals coming from the excellent RE Engine, Capcom managed to throwback to the blissful old days of PS2 button mashing.

1. Resident Evil 2: Remake

This game took us by surprise when it was announced back in E3 2019. If DMC was a throwback to the PS2 days, then this is a reenactment of the golden ps1 days. The game is as long and short as it needs to be, great for both crowd who wants to play it slow and steady, and speedrunners who want to bulldoze it through with plenty of replay value.

Yes, I am a Capcom fanboy. And zombies.
