Joaquin Phoenix Creates History In The Golden Globes

Joaquin Phoenix is one step closer to winning that Oscar for his phenomenal performance in Todd Phillips’ Joker last year, as he has won the award for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama earlier today at the 2020 Golden Globes.

Phoenix was nominated for the Golden Globe Best Actor awards alongside Adam Driver in Marriage Story, Christian Bale in Ford v. Ferrari, Jonathan Pryce in The Two Popes, and Antonio Banderas in Pain and Glory.

This is Phoenix’s first major Best Actor win of the 2019-20 awards season so far, and surely only his first of many. The majority of precursor Best Actor prizes this season have been awarded to Adam Driver for Marriage Story or Adam Sandler for Uncut Gems.

Phoenix’s Best Actor win is actually his second Golden Globe award after taking home the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical in 2006 for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line. In the past, he has also previously received Golden Globe nominations for his performances in Gladiator, The Master, Her, and Inherent Vice.

Joker also took home the Golden Globe for Best Original Score by Hildur Gudnadóttir, making it the first comic book movie in history to win two awards at one occasion. In the meantime, check out our review of Joker here, or head on over here to check out all the easter eggs we discovered in the movie.
