Ninja Theory Is Making An Experimental Game That Recreates “Real Mental Terror”
By Burhan ZamriVerified|January 23, 2020|0 Comment
The folks over at Ninja Theory have been really busy ever since the release of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. They’re currently simultaneously working on three projects: Hellblade II, hero-brawler Bleeding Edge, and something spooky that they just announced.
[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyYzrcZurAs&w=560&h=315]That third spooky game is called Project: Mara. I actually don’t feel comfortable calling it a “game” since Ninja Theory themselves are calling it an “experimental title“. The hook here is that it’s designed as a “real-world and grounded representation of mental terror“.
It’s very hard to determine what kind of title Project: Mara is in its current state. The above teaser trailer doesn’t tell us much aside from the fact that it might blend real-world filmography and digitally generated visuals. Then again, it’s just an early teaser.
Judging by their success in portraying mental conditions such as schizophrenia in the first Hellblade, it’s not entirely surprising to see them venture into something like this. In case you didn’t know, they actually referred to mental health experts when designing the game.
As expected, there’s no release date yet and I recommend not holding your breath. The studio is probably breaking their backs to launch Bleeding Edge and Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II.
