The World’s Biggest FPS Is Going To Be A Movie
In case you are wondering; no, it’s not Call of Duty.
One of Southeast Asia, Korea, and China’s biggest online PC first-person shooter, CrossFire, is getting a movie. According to a Variety report, Sony Pictures has landed the rights to make a film out of the Smilegate-published game.
Producer Neal Moritz (Fast & Furious series) and writer Chuck Hogan (13 Hours) will be leading the movie project. Tencent Pictures will be co-financing and co-producing the film.
For those who aren’t well-versed in Asia online gaming, CrossFire is a big deal despite being obviously inspired by Counter-Strike. While it has the standard team deathmatch-slash-objective based gameplay, the game also introduced wave mode and zombie mode which became staples in first-person and third-person shooters since 2007.
Since then, the game has more than 650 million registered users and has reached 8 million peak concurrent players.
