Overwatch League’s Cancelled China Matches Will Take Place In South Korea

Last month, it shook the esports scene when the Overwatch League cancelled all its matches which were scheduled to take place in China for the next two months. Now Blizzard has announced that they are planning to reschedule the matches, which will now take place in Seoul, South Korea.

According to Blizzard, the purpose of this action is “to protect the health and safety of our fans, players, and staff.” The matches will be played during multiple days in the Weeks 6 and 7 of the Overwatch League, which will take place on the weekends of 14 March and 21 March 2020.

Previously scheduled matches in Miami and Atlanta that were set to take place those weekends will remain unaffected. A few of the makeup matches might be added to the Seoul Dynasty homestand in Week 5. However, the makeup matches will not affect the other scheduled homestands in Washington (Week 5), Florida (Week 6), and Atlanta (Week 7).

We will reveal specific match dates and times soon. All matches will be live-streamed on the official Overwatch League YouTube channel.

The Overwatch League isn’t the only esports or gaming-related events to have been negatively affected by the Coronavirus outbreak. The League Of Legends Pro League in China has been suspended, while the Taipei Game Show in Taiwan was recently delayed.
